Ahhhhh, Rose season is finally here!!! I used to wait for Spring to start drinking Rose, But now I buy and enjoy them year round. Why wait? I am especially drawn to them during the Winter Holidays; they are just so festive. However, when restaurants and bars start to feature them at this time of year I know it’s officially upon us.

I write this on my birthday which is always accompanied with a t least one glass of Rose. My other love is sipping tequila. I was born on Cinco De Mayo, so that it usually my drink of choice on this day. This year is shaping out to be a little different. It’s a gorgeous day in Colorado and I get to go pick up my husband from the airport in a little while, so I’m excited. I’m looking for something a little different to drink with him on the patio later. Why I pick this bottle is beyond me. I was so skeptical about it when I bought it that I almost didn’t. I think it’s the shape of the bottle that made me grab it. It’s like an old fashioned champagne bottle blended with a Travaglini Gattinara bottle. So I grab it and toss it in the wine drawer to chill it. I now wish I tossed two or even three in there because I want more!

Rose is a wine that I’m not too picky about and enjoy many as long as they are not sweet and syrupy. My favorite Roses have citrus acidity, hints of strawberry, and most definitely are composed of some mineral notes. Really, I love any wine with some minerality. Not sure that minerality is a word, but I have been using it to describe different wines for so long that we are going with it. This wine has all of that and more. The nose is of wild berries, delicate flowers, and lovely herbaceous aromas. It’s a lighter medium bodied wine that has the citrus, strawberry, and minerals that I crave mixed with scant nectarine flavors. This is a wine that we will be enjoying throughout the summer…and winter. The one drawback is the price which I feel is a little pricey. While I think it’s a great bottle and fulfills my Rose requirements, it’s not a very good value. That didn’t stop me from making an order for some more though. It does seem to be going pretty quickly, so go get some before it’s gone!
