There are plenty of events this weekend in Colorado. Labor Day has always brought great traditional events for our state. Listed below are the most popular events that I highly recommend you attend at least one! All of which are family friendly.
Here are the top three (not in preferential order):
The Taste of Colorado- This festival started back in 1895 as a carnival similar to New Orleans’ Mardi Gras to boost the city’s morale & vitality. The event has since turned into you will see today. You get to taste the food from 60+ restaurants in Colorado. Be entertained with free concerts, carnival rides, games, and craft activities for kids.
Plus there will be vendors for some unique shopping of arts and crafts, furniture, jewelry, and imports. Basically, you can make a day of it or the whole weekend! One thing for sure is you will need to plan ahead for parking and traffic. If possible take the bus in and make sure to bring cash! (Side note: only the concerts are free)
The Colorado State Fair & Rodeo- This is the 145th year for the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, CO! This is one of the largest festivals in the state. Here you will find it all.
This was a long standing tradition in our household. There will be concerts (ZZ top, Skillet & Hunter Hayes), carnival rides, competitions, sideshows, dancing, rodeo, animals, arts, games, etc. Again, this is one you can attend for a day or the whole weekend. My only suggestion is if you didn’t plan ahead and get a hotel maybe look to staying in Colorado Springs and then you can also enjoy the next festival I will be making note of next. Colorado Springs Labor Day Lift Off– This event is FREE!Absolutely free to attend this spectacular event. When my family stopped doing the Colorado State Fair, this event turned into our new tradition. Again, you can attend for just one day or plan to stay both days. It runs from Sept. 2nd-4th. One thing for sure is you want to at least catch one “glow” night. On the evenings of the 2nd & 3rd they light up all the balloons, it is a spectacular sight to see. Now, if you’re not an early bird getting up to see the lift off is tough but it is well worth it. You are surrounded by the action and walk among the balloons as they inflate and launch. I can’t say it enough, it is a spectacular sight to see! You can even squeeze in a few more activities in Colorado Springs such as the Cheyenne Mountian Zoo (love this zoo, and it’s not in Cheyenne), Cave of the Winds, North Pole or perhaps Garden of the Gods.
Last but not least, please make sure to share pictures and your feedback on the events you do this weekend, we would love to see and hear all about it!
