This is definitely a commonly asked question. As you may have seen or noticed, there are a lot of people who want to move to Colorado and raise a family. Who would blame them, it’s beautiful! Being a native I have always loved Colorado. It is a great place to raise a family. You have all four seasons, great outdoor activities and a economy that is pretty strong.
Choosing a school or district for you children is a tough question because it comes down to what is important to you. I think the one thing that is common in deciding this, is that we all want a great education for our kids. But the other things that play a big importance to one may not be as important for someone else. Such as do you want diversity? Sports? Arts? Location? City? Suburban? These play a huge importance in finding a great school for your children.
With all these questions there is more things to consider. A great website I have found to help in researching is www.greatshchools.com, it gives a great overview of all schools, including feedback from parents and students. Gives you great links to the schools and scorings as well. No it may not answer all your questions, but it gives you a great starting point. Another good website is www.schooldigger.com , this has a good search engine with city rankings, district rankings, school rankings, etc.
Then from there the best thing to do is visit the school, see the neighborhood it’s in and then maybe do some more research once you narrow it down to the ones you like the most.
Again, there is no straight answer for this. I can only speak out of experience, I grew up in Golden and went to Golden High School but now living in Denver I know many parents who are pleased with Denver County schools. Some favorites in Denver or Cory Elementary, East High School, George Washington High School which is also offersInternational Baccalaureate Diploma Program and Moore K-8. Again these are just some of the schools I have heard about in Denver. A few schools that don’t get mentioned very often and not very many know of them is Denver School of the Arts andDenver School of Science and Technology, these are great schools, they are public schools but you have to be accepted in. These are great options to look into as well. Outside of Denver one of the highest ranked school districts in Douglas county and Boulder County.
Again, these are just some areas and resources to get you started in your research, I hope this helps you in your search for the best school in Colorado!
